Breaking through the One-Page Resume Myth

One of the common myths that we break through in Congratulations... You're Hired is that a generic one page resume works best. This is NOT true.

There are many ways to develop a strong resume. I typically recommend that a one-page resume format is only used...
  • If you are a High School Student and do not have enough job experience
  • If a college or employer has specifically asked for a one-page resume
  • If you are going to a job fair where recruiters have recommended the format
It is very difficult to make your resume stand out when it is only one page. A select few of the tips that I put in my book is to get the attention, and persuade an employer to grant you an interview, then mirror the job posting, include key words to stand out from the rest.

Follow our blog to stay updated on the latest about our books coming out on August 21, and to get some helpful tips from an HR Director, the person who is hiring!
